It is deep in the heart of winter in most areas, so I thought it was time to come up with something a little warmer.

I lived in Hawaii for six years, and loved going to the beach. The sun shinning brightly, the trade winds in your face, the waves rolling onto a strip of perfect sand, oh how I miss it sometimes. So with this one, I tried to come up with the ultimate beach fantasy, a beached beauty.

I have tried hard with this photo, but can't get it to exactly match the painting. The blue water on the left is actually more turquoise.

I live in Westminster, Colorado, and we don't have any bridges similar to this. London is just a fantastic city, and I love painting scenes from there. I have walked across this bridge several times in the past, but not in the snow. (A driving rain once.) I love painting these night time views.

Snowy London Roofs

I love London. It is a special place. Yesterday it was even more special because it was hit with the biggest snow storm in many years. It transformed the city into shades of white and blue. I looked at a number of photos and film clips of the snow, then decided to note the storm in my own moody way. This is a view looking over snowy roofs to Big Ben.

This is based on a photo I took of two girls admiring a sculpture in the Denver Art Museum.
I also did a painting of the girl in the shorts, last year, entitled, The Dance Examiner. I actually painted this several months ago, and tucked it away in a corner of my studio, then forgot to post it. Oh well, I have an excuse, I am 60.

Stanley Hotel Lobby, Estes Park, Colorado

In October I went to Estes Park, Colorado to the Stanley Hotel. It was built in 1909 by Freelan O. Stanley, who invented the Stanley Steamer. This is the hotel that inspired, Stephen King to write, The Shining. The film with Jack Nicholson, was not filmed there, but the mini series done in more recent years was. The painting is based on a photo I took. This is a view that looks out onto the large front porch, toward the mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park.
