Dressed For Success

Dressed For Success
9 x 12 inches
Oil on wood panel.
The confident pose is what drew me to this image. A terrific British photographer, Tim Haylock, graciously gave me permission to use his photo for inspiration for this painting. Since it was a British image, I thought I would get a little "cheeky" with the title. You can see Tim's work here: http://timhaylock.deviantart.com/ Do be aware that his site has beautiful, tasteful nudity. If you are offended by that, don't click on the link.

30 x 40 inches
Oil on canvas.
A lovely woman in a large space, with radiant light around her.
I wanted this one to have a dreamlike quality to it. Many thanks to Andrew Gnezdilov, a Russian photographer who graciously gave me permission to use one of his photos for inspiration for this painting.

LilyPads

Oil on wood panel.

This one was based on a photo of lily pads in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan last September. I loved the blues and the reflections in the water.

The View Through the Doorway

The View Through the Doorway
12 x 16 inches
Oil on wood panel.

For years I have been a fan of the artwork of Jack Vettriano, so I decided I would do a painting influenced by his style.  A UK photographer Satyruk2000  http://satyruk2000.deviantart.com/ graciously allowed me to use his wonderful photo as the inspiration for this painting. I've photographed this painting over 100 times trying to get the colors just right. It is still not perfect, but close.

Pink String Theory

As we get closer to the end of summer, I thought it would be a good time to think again about sunny skies, warm water, and a lovely woman on the beach.

Eagle

Eagle
24 x 30 inches
oil on wood panel

I love eagles. There is a nest a short distance from my home and I have spent many hours, watching and taking photos of them. This was painted in thick, bold strokes to represent the power and majesty of our national symbol.

Night Rider
16 x 20 inches
Oil on Canvas
SOLD

This combines two of my favorite subjects to paint, a nude and an iconic western landscape. This was the most difficult painting I have done to photograph. It changes colors some in relation to the amount of light in the room. My reason for mentioning that is I have tried to get the color as accurate as possible. The real thing, as always, is better than any photo.

Indian Woman, Spring
Acrylic on Canvas
30 x 40 inches

I have been in an experimenting mood lately, so thought I would go a more abstract way with this one.

Champagne Dreams
6 x 6 inches
Oil on wood panel

I have always loved bold colors in painting, so I decided to let my Pop Art vibe run wild with this one. The blue on the painting is actually somewhat darker than in the photo, but I can't get the photo to match it correctly, so you'll just have to use your imagination.

San Geronimo Church, Taos Peublo

 San Geronimo Church, Taos Peublo
11 x 14 inches
Oil on canvas

SOLD

If you ever get anywhere near Taos, New Mexico, be sure to visit the Taos Peublo. It is one of those places you visit, where you know you are seeing something special. It gives you a glimpse back into history.

The Pueblo, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities, and is the largest surviving multi-storied Pueblo structure in the United States. Built between 1000 and 1450 A.D. it appears today much like it would have a millennium ago.

In 1960, Taos Pueblo was designated a National Historic Landmark, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. In 1992, the Pueblo was named by the United Nations to the “World Heritage List,” due to its uniqueness and universal value to the heritage of all mankind.

Approximately 150 people live within the Pueblo full time.

If you visit and get a little tired of the ancient life, you can go down the road a half mile from the church and try your luck at the casino.

Stockings

Stockings
11 x 15 inches

I think I'm done with this one. I will put it up on the wall to look at it for awhile, then decide for sure. This painting was based on a wonderful image shot by a Swiss photographer, Dani Fehr. He graciously allowed me to use it. You can see more of his work at http://artofdan70.deviantart.com/ or at http://www.artofdan.com/.

Notting Hill Station

I've been working on and off, (mostly off) on this painting over the past couple of years. I have had it hanging on the wall for a few months now and have decided it is done. I worked from a photo I took of Notting Hill Station in London a few years ago. I just loved the interplay of the brilliant sunlight and the shadows.

White Light

In this painting, I wanted the figure to be engulfed by the white light coming in the window as if she were in a dream.

After a months long layoff, I am back painting again. This is the first of many more to come in 2013.

Several years ago, my wife, Anne, my sister Robin and I, took a road trip to Phoenix to enjoy the west and visit relatives. We had a wonderful time and this painting comes from the many photos I took in the desert.
