Van Gogh Corner

Van Gogh Corner
8 x 10 inches
Oil on wood panel.

Last year, I visited the National Gallery in Washington, DC. It is an amazing gallery filled with wonderful natural light. I call this Van Gogh Corner, as two of his significant portraits of women, reside there.

A Few Days Off

I haven't done any painting the past few days, as we have had a guest. An old family friend, Jeannie Sweet, originally from Bristol, England, but who now lives in Sterling, Virginia. Yesterday we drove into the mountains, to Golden Gate State Park, near Golden, Colorado.

We were only in the park for two minutes, when we saw two coyotes trot across the road. I was able to snap off a couple of quick shots out the car window, while they climbed the ridge, all the time, watching us carefully.

Golden Gate is a great place to visit. Close to Denver, lots of wild life, and beautiful views.

This view is just inside the entrance to the park. I haven't done any landscapes in awhile and after reviewing some of the photos I took, I may use them for inspiration for some paintings.

Stop anywhere for a picnic and you will be visited by ground squirrels. They are cute, and consummate beggars. We were visited by a family of five. The little ones were fun to watch as the scurried around, leaping here and there.

I call the photo below, Flying Ground Squirrel.

There are great views of the Continental Divide from the park. Most of the peaks shown are between 13,000 and 14,000 feet high.

I hope to get back to painting this evening, but welcomed the days off and the wonderful time spent in the great Rocky Mountains.

Resting Before The Party

Resting Before the Party
8 x10 inches
Oil on wood panel.

A lovely woman rests and dreams before an evening out.

This is the way it looks in a frame hanging on my bedroom wall. With some of the paintings I really like, I frame them and live with them for a while before I sell them.

Parisian Heels

Parisian Heels
16 x 20 inches
Oil on canvas.

I recently happened on a blog by a very talented woman in Paris. She goes by, Miss Glitzy, and describes herself as, "A Loulou forever. And a photographer and video "podcaster" in 16:9... a vamp and a tramp... a free spirit who loves shoes, designers who create them, women (& men) who wear them."

Her blog is creative, fun, and filled with wonderful images. She has graciously allowed me to use her photos as inspiration for paintings. This is my first one. It is a screen shot I took from her video, "If it Don't Fit, (Don't Force It)." There was a very short segment of a woman striding across a white carpet (I believe at a fashion show) in Paris. I loved the beautiful shapes and the muted colors.

The Artist's Studio

The Artist's Studio
5x7 inches
Oil on Masonite panel

I am a regular watcher of an interesting and informative online show, on www.Ustream.com, called Dave The Painting Guy. David Darrow is the guy, and he is one terrific portrait painter. This painting was based on a web cam shot of Dave's former studio. He is currently moving to a new one. I have taken certain artistic liberties with colors and things. Thanks for permitting me to use the photo, Dave. You can see Dave's show here, www.davethepaintingguy.com.
