Ocean Dream

Ocean Dream
5 x7 inches
Oil on Masonite panel

The warm weather has me thinking of the beach. I lived in Hawaii for six years and spent many wonderful hours staring out at the deep ocean blue. (Also sailing, snorkeling, boogie boarding and swimming in it.) Being on the beach and experiencing the power and majesty of the ocean is something that is difficult to fully express. (I guess you can tell, I miss it at times.)

The other night, when I finished a painting, I noticed a big blob of blue paint on my palette. It was if it were calling out to me and immediately I had the desire to paint. This is not from a photo or any other source, other than my dreams. My only thought when I started it, was, sky, ocean, beach. So instead of cleaning my brushes and going to bed, as I had intended, I stayed up and finished this in one quick session.

I've tried my best to photograph, Ocean Dream, to show it properly, but the real thing is so much better. The photo just doesn't show the richness of the colors and the brush strokes.
